Gudi Padwa

Gudi Padwa is coming! It’s been many years since I celebrated Gudi Padwa, but I remember the celebrations when i was a kid. It was mostly helping dad in raising the Gudi with a long bamboo, neem leaves, kalash and all, then waiting for mom to finish cooking Puran-Poli, Kadhi, Vade etc. (She wouldn’t allow us to start till complete Naivedya thali is set and prasad is presented to God), and then spend all day eating gathi (battashe)! Don’t know how we could enjoy that extremely sweet thing! At least in those days words like calories and fat were not acting as watchmen for everything we eat.
For all those in Bangalore, we at "The Peshwa Restaurant" are celebrating this year's Gudi Padwa with something special. We have a special festive buffet that includes Puran Poli, kadhi, etc. Do visit!

Maharashtra Mandal and Gathi-Bheti group

On Saturday, very first time, I visited Maharashtra Mandal in Bangalore. It’s located at Majestic in a maze of one-ways. The building itself was an immediate disappointment. I was standing in front of the building and had to ask for directions. Not a single board anywhere with "Maharashtra Mandal" on it! There is a Kamath Restaurant in the same complex and I couldn’t find anything Marathi in there. I was there for a preparatory meeting regarding the upcoming Gathi-Bheti group event - "Ek Marathmola diwas" to be organized on 1st of May - Maharashtra Diwas. It was really good to see around 20-25 Maharashtrian artists and organizers exchanging ideas and planning for this event. These guys are organizing this event from last four years and each of those events has been a grand success. They are planning to have bunch of cultural events like lavani, natak, kirtan etc. I don’t think they will have any celebrity coming in
this time around, but there will be a big Maharashtrian lunch instead! No, food is not coming from "The Peshwa", they had already finalized a caterer from Kolhapur even before The Peshwa Restaurant started :) But "The Peshwa" will be involved in organizing this event and tickets will be available at the restaurant for all those who are in south Bangalore.

Keep checking this blog for tickets, timing and other event details.
